R&D
With ceaseless R&D endeavors,
Samyang strives for technology innovations.
Samyang Holdings developed many innovative products by focusing resources in the research of the drug delivery system (DDS).
DDS is a technology that delivers the drug into the body. Our Biopharmaceuticals R&D Center developed the drug-loading technology using biocompatible polymer nano-technology, solubility improvement technology for poorly water-soluble drugs, and various formulation technologies of oral medications.
Technology
Introduction
PM (Polymeric Micelle)
This is a technology that solubilizes poorly water-soluble drugs using biodegradable polymer which forms micelles with a structure of “hydrophobic core - hydrophilic shell” in the water-soluble liquid state. It is a source technology that can be used not only for anti-cancer drugs but also for other various drugs. Samyang Holdings developed the world’s first biodegradable polymer nano-particles applied product and acquired relevant license.
Characteristics

PNP (Polymeric Nanoparticle)
This nano-particle technology adds biodegradable anionic polymer and divalent cation to the PM technology. Its enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect resulting from increased retention in blood enhances the drug delivery to the cancerous cell, thereby minimizing systemic side effects of the drug and maximizing the treatment effect.

SR (Sustained Release - Parenteral)
Sustained Release (SR) is a technology that designs the drug to be released continuously from the medication. It can maintain the medicinal effect for a long time by keeping the blood drug concentration at a level that is effective for the treatment. Depending on the design of the sustained-release injection, the medicinal effect can last for days or even months.
Characteristics

Technology
Introduction
SEMP (Solubility Enhanced Micro Particle)
By producing poorly water-soluble drugs together with solubilizing polymer as solid dispersion, the technology increases the solubility of the drug and improves the bioavailability (BA) when the medication is taken orally.
Characteristics
-
01
Excellent solubilization effect
-
02
Substantial improvement of bioavailability
-

Can be applied to various drugs
FDT (Fast Dissolving Tablet)
This tablet is made by utilizing porous materials and bonding agents with the appropriate level of concentration and by tableting highly-plastic granules. It can be taken without water as it disintegrates on the tongue with saliva. It is a technology that was developed through joint research with Akina, a U.S. company. (Technology name: Frosta®)
Characteristics
-
01
Fast disintegration with saliva
-
02
Excellent physical strength
-
03
Applicable to various drugs

04
Pleasant mouthfeel
CSDS (Colon Specific Delivery System)
This is a technology that utilizes special film coating that is dissolved by the bacteria inside the colon, preventing the release of drug at the upper gastrointestinal tract and delivers the drug to the colon.
Characteristics
-
01
High level of selective delivery to the colon
-
02
Small deviation
-
03
Can be applied to various drugs (including peptide)
SR (Sustained Release - Oral)
This technology is designed to continuously release the drug from the medication. It can make the medicinal effect last for a long time by maintaining the blood drug concentration at a level that is effective for the treatment. The double-layered tablet technology for the sustained-release oral medication consists of the immediate-release layer and the sustained-release layer. After the immediate-release layer releases the drug swiftly, the sustained-release layer releases the drug gradually, which improves convenience by reducing the frequency of taking the medication.
Characteristics
-
01
Improves patient convenience by reducing the frequency of taking the medication
-
02
Reduces side effects by maintaining a stable blood concentration level
